Day 14| MODERATE

ˈmä-də-ˌrāt | transitive verb: to lessen the intensity or extremeness of

Today, the focus is on achieving stability by perfecting your internal recipe for calm: moderation. Think of yourself as an alchemist: your goal is to blend seemingly opposite elements in your life into the perfect recipe.

Moderation is the balance of making space for what you need and what's expected of you. It's balancing quiet time and energy for social events. With the hustle and bustle of the holiday season and how busy life can get, figuring out that unique mix that's sustainable for you is key.

When things feel difficult, it often means things are out of proportion. This instability leads straight to burnout. Your commitment today is to look at the two things that are currently causing you the most internal struggle and consciously adjust the ratio. If you're caught between intense work and intense procrastination, find a measured balance that lets you act patiently without forcing extremes. When you achieve this stable mixture, you see an easy flow that frees you up to focus on your clear purpose.

JOURNAL PROMPTS

  • Name two opposing forces in your life right now. What is the ideal ratio or mixture you need to feel balanced?
  • Where in your routine are you currently applying an "all-or-nothing" approach? What small, measured step can you take instead of jumping to an extreme?
  • Think back to your why, your ultimate purpose for this self-care journey. How can achieving moderation, this stable mixture, help you sustain that purpose?
  • How can you bring a sense of sacred ritual to an ordinary daily task today (e.g., preparing a cup of tea, taking a walk) by focusing on the patience and care of the process?

THE GIFT

For today's gift, I wanted a scent that was rooted in balance, calm, and strength. When I need to take a step back and balance things out in my life, I often go to the hearth in my family room. No. 27 from my winter collection, is a love letter to that hearth. That hearth is where I moderate almost daily, so I knew I wanted something similar. I drew on several of the base notes. You'll find this scent is rooted more in earth elements than No. 27. There's sage for balance, focus, and grounding; fir for calm and comfort, and lavender for happiness and peace.

SCENT DESCRIPTION:

Top Notes: sage, orange, light smoke

Middle Notes: lavender, balsam, cedar

Base Notes: oakmoss, juniper, pine, fir
