Day 23| CONNECT
'kuh-nekt | intransitive verb: to have or establish a rapport
For the last three weeks, you've been intensely focused on your inner self. Today, let's look outward. Self-care often feels like a solitary pursuit, something we do alone in a quiet room. But the truth is, we're social by nature. Please keep in mind, I say that as an introvert's introvert. Sustainability in self-care takes a village. No one thrives in a vacuum. Your friends, family (biological or chosen), and trusted groups provide the scaffolding that holds up your new habits when life gets heavy. It recognizes that you have unique gifts that are needed, and that you also need the gifts of others.
Your commitment today is to actively connect with your support system. This is a two-way street. First, acknowledge what you bring to the table. Sharing your specific skills, whether that is listening, organizing, cooking, or planning, is a powerful form of connection that reinforces your own sense of purpose. Second, and often harder, is the willingness to receive support. You do not have to carry every burden alone, especially during the holidays. Identify where you are under-utilizing the help and wisdom of your community. Think about the intention you set on day one. How can you lean on someone you trust to help you maintain that intention as the season peaks? You may need a walking buddy to keep you moving, or just a friend to vent to, so you can clear your head. Building connection with your village strengthens your foundation. It reminds you that you are part of a larger whole. Reach out to someone you trust today. Offer your help, or be brave enough to ask for theirs. When we connect, we make self-care work lighter for everyone involved.
JOURNAL PROMPTS
- What is one area of your life right now where you are hesitant to ask for help? Identify one person in your community you can ask for specific, small support today.
- What unique talent, skill, or strength do you have that you can share with your community today to feel more connected and useful?
- Who is one person you truly admire for their wisdom or perspective? Reach out to them (or imagine a conversation) and note the advice they would give you about your current self-care routine.
- What small act of connection (a call, a short visit, a shared meal) can you plan today that will bring mutual joy to you and a member of your community?
