Day 21 - Patience

Patience we know is a virtue. One that I often forget, if I'm being honest. Especially on days when I'm rushed, overstimulated and tired. In this era of instant and often constant gratification, it is easy to lose sight of patience. It can be hard to tolerate delays and disappointment.

I read somewhere not to long ago that as parents our job isn't to manage our kid's emotions for them, but to manage ours in response to when they can't manage theirs. If you are a parent, you know that is easier said than done. But I do think it is true. Sometimes the easiest way to practice patience is being mindful of your frustration. Being mindful of when you can't manage your own emotions.

When something comes up that is irritating, stop. Take a deep breath. Count to five.

Journal Prompts

  • When you don’t immediately react to a stimulus, what is the outcome? Is that outcome different from when you immediately react?
  • What is the root cause of your anger and frustration? Are you investing your energy in the right activities?
  • How can you create more space for patience in your life?

Today's Gift

Today's gift is a candle from my original 12. This was my first attempt at a scent that was floral. And boy, oh boy, did it take some patience to get it right. It took me at least six attempts to pull together the English garden by the sea vibe I was going for. But, I persevered and the outcome is in your hands. I hope you love it.
